CHRISTIE BLACK Miss Virginia
Wow! This has already been an amazing journey. WHAT AN HONOR! I have had a rather demanding year so I was not even sure if I was still going to be able to compete in the competition until just days before the Pageant. I was determined to make this a great experience, still optimistic, and if nothing else just happy and honored to be competing. I was first runner up last year and had a completely unexpected win after a last minute decision to enter this year. I can not describe the feeling that this Title brings and am not sure what my future holds. I imagine it to be nothing short of incredibly astounding. During my reign I would like to serve as a symbol of women’s empowerment, as a server of the community, as well as an example of how dedication, resilience, and faith can aid a person in their quest to transcend expectations. I am looking forward to an amazing and successful year as Your Miss Virginia United States 2009! Christie Black
I am still stunned and can’t believe I am actually Miss Teen Virginia. The day before the pageant getting ready, shopping with my mom and packing my things for Sunday was a whirlwind. I didn’t sleep at all before the big day. Pageant day was so much fun! All the girls were so wonderful and deserved the title as much as anyone. Then standing on stage I watched as each of the finalists in the Teen Division counted down until it was just two of us. Then it was said... ‘And your new Miss Teen Virginia is... Liz Barker!’ All I could think of was, this can’t really be happening. Can it? This isn’t what I was preparing myself for! Now that it has happened, it is a dream come true. I am looking forward to a fabulous year with Chris, Christi and Susie. I am honored to follow in Elle’s footsteps and I will do my best to make her and everyone proud of me. I promise to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability. I have been involved in community service for the past few years and I’m planning to continue my current activities as well as jump full force into my platform to prevent bullying in schools. With the support of the Miss United States Organization behind me, my opportunities to raise awareness of the damages bullying in schools can cause has been increased tremendously. For that and many other reasons, I am truly grateful and proud to serve as your Miss Teen Virginia. Thank you to everyone who supported me and gave me encouragement to compete. I am truly blessed to serve as YOUR Miss Teen Virginia... Liz Barker!
Being crowned as Miss Junior Teen Virginia United States 2009 was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. When they announced the first runner up and it wasn’t my name, I still didn’t understand that I was the winner until I looked over at Chris Wilmer and his face said it all. I was so confused because I didn’t believe it was actually me. It felt so great to be up there with those amazing girls, all I wanted to do was hug them all and see my parents. I only thought that I would dream of having a title so honorable, and now it is a dream come true. As I look back at the whole competition I think it could have gone to any one of the young ladies up there, because they were all so amazing and unique. Also I’m so appreciative to have been crowned by such an amazing young lady, Kelsee Grant, she is so beautiful and talented, and gave me some words of wisdom to start off my year. I look forward to an amazing year with Chris, my new beautiful sister queens, and the so many other amazing people I am sure I will encounter. I have so much to be thankful for and none of this could be possible without the Lord’s will, so I have to say I really do owe it all to God. I also have to thank my family for always supporting me and believing in my dreams. A special thanks to my friends and everyone back home for being happy for me and showing love and support. I’d also like to thank Chris, the judges, and everyone who contributed to the beautiful pageant; it is a date I will always remember! I love being a role model for young people and I think that with this title I will absolutely be able to reach out to people everywhere. I’m sure Chris already has some great things in store for me this year and I can’t wait to get started. I am so excited to have a whole year in front of me to represent Virginia, and now I just have to make the best of an amazing opportunity. Finally a whole 24 hours after the competition it is all starting to become real for me, I really am your Miss Junior Teen Virginia 2009.
