MISS UNITED STATES 2011   ASHLEY SMITH   (Miss Virginia United States 2011)

What an honor it is to be a part of the Virginia United States family! I put my dreams into action and enjoyed every moment of my experience in beautiful Richmond, Va. I competed with and had the opportunity to get to know some of Virginia’s finest women, which even further humbled me when selected as Miss Virginia United States 2011.I can remember the moment right before crowning being so peaceful and surreal; and then I heard the words, “And your new Miss Virginia United States 2011 is… Ashley Smith!” Music swelled and applause erupted from the audience, but all I could think of at the time were the feelings of shock and gratefulness that overwhelmed me. I knew from that moment on, my life would never be the same. And almost instantly, things began to change for me. I’m so excited to take the journey during my year of service and touch as many lives as I can.An experience I am truly anticipating will be serving as a goodwill ambassador for the MVAUS Organization’s platform “Rite Care”; a not-for-profit organization that provides speech, language, fluency, voice, hearing and auditory processing disorder evaluations and treatment to children. I also look forward to continuing my service under my personal platform, “Breast Cancer: It’s Not Just Hereditary”, which promotes education of breast cancer as an impartial disease and advocates awareness of the fight to find a cure. There is a Cherokee Expression that says, “When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.” I have applied this proverb to my life, and my year of service under this organization will be no different. I intend to spread an impactful message throughout the Commonwealth and make the very most of this unbelievable opportunity.Thank you sincerely to the Miss Virginia United States Organization for making all of this possible… the journey, and the dream, has begun! I am and forever will be YOUR Miss Virginia United States 2011 Ashley Smith.

Wow! I still can't believe that I am your Miss Teen Virginia 2011.  I can still hear,"And your Miss Teen Virginia is...Ashley Greenfield!" I had been waiting to hear those words for so long and my moment was finally here. I was so overwhelmed with happiness and couldn't help but cry the whole time of my crowning! After a long year of hard work and commitment, my dream has finally come true.  I am looking forward to an amazing year with my sister queens and wonderful director. I know we will have many great experiences together and memories that will last a lifetime. I also can not wait for the Miss Teen United States Pageant in Las Vegas! I realized after winning the pageant that it's not time to take a break; It is time to start working even harder! I am so excited to start shopping and prepping for nationals where we will all have an amazing time. Last but certainly not least, I am very much looking forward to traveling around Virginia making appearances and visiting elementary schools to talk about my platform, "Self Perception Starts With Reflection." My goal is to inspire children all over to follow their dreams and to help them believe in themselves. I am so happy to be representing such a beautiful state and look forward to meeting so many great people.  FINALLY, I am YOUR Miss Teen Virginia; Ashley Greenfield.
