I take great pride in my state and will use this title as a platform to serve Virginia as a role model to individuals and as a volunteer to non-profits and organizations that support this great state. It is a blessing to have earned an opportunity to be a part of a wonderful organization that strives to support the positive development of young women. Thank you for providing such an amazing experience thus far and I look forward to spending this year as your Miss Virginia United States representing this great program that has been provided to young women throughout Virginia. I know this year will be a rewarding year and I am looking forward to the many adventures that lay ahead. I truly believe that competing in a pageant and earning a title is only a small portion of a larger picture. As Miss Virginia United States 2010, I look at my reign as a job for one year and the job responsibilities began the moment the crown was placed on my head. I will strive to spend my year volunteering with non-profits such as the American Cancer Society, Children’s Miracle Network, Cinderella Dreams Foundation, Rite Care and others. I will also take this incredible opportunity to represent Virginia and to encourage local support of Virginia organizations and businesses. I will do my best to make Virginia proud at the Miss United States Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. Thank you to all for you unwavering support and encouragement thus far…I am one lucky lady! I am grateful and honored to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia as YOUR Miss Virginia United States... Brittany Gordon!!! 
I am still in shock that I have just been crowned Miss Teen Virginia. I have always been told everything happens for a reason and now I truly believe in that statement. I haven’t been doing pageants very long but throughout my time I have faced many disappointments that were hard to swallow but I always told myself “everything happens for a reason, God has a bigger plan for you.” I found that to be true today. Leading up to the pageant was a whirlwind of preparations for the big weekend. The pageant was so much fun! The Southern Women’s Show and Flying Squirrels game on Friday night were awesome and it was great to get to know all of the girls. When they announced the winner my mouth dropped I was in shock and so excited- I couldn’t believe I had actually won. All of the girls were so sweet and looked gorgeous anyone of them would have been a great representative. I am so honored to follow in Liz’s footsteps and represent Virginia. I am ready to take on this challenge and proudly serve Virginia throughout the year. I plan to jump in full force and give 100% to not only the Miss Virginia United States Organization but to my state as well. I will continue my work with Donate Life which supports and promotes organ and tissue donation. This organization has affected me personally when I received tissue from the local tissue bank to help repair a torn ligament in my ankle. Imagine if a small piece of tissue helped my ankle get better what could a heart do for a sick child? I know that with the support of the Miss Virginia United States Organization I will be able sign up more donors and raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. I am so grateful to everyone that has supported me and encouraged me throughout this process. I’m very excited and proud to be YOUR Miss Teen Virginia… Katie Turner.
Standing and waiting for the winner to be announced, I began to become more and more nervous. Then finally... it was announced... "Your new Miss Junior Teen Virginia is… Hannah Shaffer!” I stood in astonishment and froze because I did not believe what I was hearing. But once Susie started walking towards me with the crown in her hands I began to feel... this is real. I knew from that point my life was going to change. I was truly amazed and excited! This was the proudest moment of my life. I then took my first walk as your new Miss Junior Teen Virginia! They announced the Miss Teen Virginia United States as Katie Turner and the Miss Virginia United States as Brittany Gordon. I could not have been happier with the results. My new queen sisters are so nice and beautiful! I cannot wait to begin our journey together; I know it will be an exciting year for us! I’m sure our wonderful director has many exciting plans in store! I am so honored to have been crowned by such a beautiful young lady Susie Evans who is such a sweet girl and I know she will make it far in life. All of the contestants that were in my division were all so beautiful and amazing! I am very glad I got to spend this experience with them. Thank you to my supportive family... I do not know what I could’ve done without you. Thanks to Debi Olsavicky for all of help preparing me for this pageant. Winning this title is such an honor and any girls dream.
