I am still in a state of shock. Sitting at the dinner table with my family in a restaurant and having people come up to me and ask for my autograph or a picture is a humbling experience. The admiring eyes of children and their parents asking for pictures or autographs  is all so emotional.  All I can quietly say   is "Stay focused, be determined, and achieve your goals."

"Growing up on a farm on the Northern Neck of Virginia in the county known as the birthplace of George Washington, I knew I wanted to make a difference. I just needed to find a way. How did it all begin? Perhaps when agents suggested entering a pageant might be a method to attain my goals in modeling. My journey began a year ago while attending Virginia Commonwealth University. As I became more involved I began to educate myself as to the responsibilities that such an honor might bestow. I began to communicate with Chris Wilmer director, Miss Virginia United States. At the same time, I transferred to the Fashion Institute of New York. The celebrated title of Miss Virginia came with important obligations; one being my platform. I began to think how I could relay my experiences as a Juvenile Type One Diabetic to other young people and help them to conquer this sometimes overwhelming hurdle on the path to success. If I became Miss Virginia, perhaps I could make a difference in a young person’s life. I became determined to try. The weekend of the pageant arrived and I met inspiring, beautiful, and intelligent young women. Listening to their interviews I again felt determined to give back. So look for me in the year to come as I promise to give you all I have to give because I AM... ASHLEY CROSSMAN, YOUR MISS VIRGINIA UNITED STATES.
